            Saint Ann's Hospital, Tottenham

This mosaic was finished and installed at Finsbury Ward, St Ann's Hospital, Tottenham in October 2016. We worked with the patients on the psychiatric wards over a period of 14 weeks, and they helped to generate the design and make the border panels. The central image is based on a drawing by a former patient who felt that it would be good to see open gates, leading to a better future. The lions were inspired by a small mosaic made by another former patient and the trees are a reference to the exotic species growing in the Hospital Grounds - an Indian Bean Tree and a Strawberry Tree. The title of the piece was suggested by Ken Edwards, the Hackney Mosaic Project's Secretary.

The mosaic was completed by the Project at our workshop on Hackney Downs. We fixed it to a timber board because the future of the Hospital is a litttle uncertain, and it was installed with the help of Matt Connelly.
